Healthy Body, Quiet Mind, Joyful Heart
The Yoga
WHY YOGA?  ||  Yoga brings clarity and brightness to the mind and lightness to the body. It gives us tools to deal with everyday turmoils and brings us one step closer to inner peace. It develops inner awareness: it puts us in touch with our bodies, our feelings, and our thoughts. It also builds stamina and keeps us in good shape.

WE START WITH BREATH  ||  Breath is a link between the body and the mind. In class we learn a series of postures (āsana-s). We practice them mindfully following long smooth breath (ujjayi breath). At the end of the class we do breathing practices (prānāyāma). Whereas āsana-s build strength and mobility of the body, prānāyāma calms the mind.

ADAPTING TO YOUR NEEDS  ||  Yoga practice is a personal matter. We are all different: we have different bodies and different life experiences. Because of that, we have different needs. What is beneficial for one person might not serve another. In my class I pay close attention to each student and offer variations tailored to each person’s needs.

MAKE YOGA YOUR OWN  ||  Students are given several handouts. I do this to encourage students to develop regular home practice. It is there, by yourself, where you can really notice how you are and what you need. You learn to listen to your inner wisdom.
“Moving the body reduces heaviness and dullness, or diminishes tamas. Comfortably long and smooth breathing reduces restlessness in the body and mind, or diminishes rajas. By doing both in āsana, we encourage a lighter and clearer state of mind and body (sattva).” —Yoga Reminder by A. G. Mohan with Ganesh Mohan

    About
My name is Zuzana Benesova and I teach yoga in Edmonton, Canada. I have been practicing and studying yoga for over a decade. Since the very beginning my inspiration has been Sri T. Krishnamacharya (1888-1989). He is one of the most influential yoga teachers of the 20th century and often referred to as “the father of modern yoga”. I have had the privilege to study with three of his direct students: A. G. Mohan, Indra Mohan, and Srivatsa Ramaswami and several teachers who are students of his students.

My first yoga class was with Rameen Peyrow in 2007, on the primary series of ashtanga yoga system. I continued to study ashtanga yoga system with Mellissa Waserfall. Since 2012, I have been a student of A. G. Mohan and Indra Mohan, as well as a student of yoga therapy with their son Ganesh Mohan. In 2013, I began studying with Marcia Langenberg, who is a student of Rosemary Jeane Antze (a student of D.K.V. Desikachar, son and a student of Krishnamacharya). I had the fortune to attend several workshops and teacher trainings with Srivatsa Ramaswami, Rosemary Jeane Antze, and other teachers. I continue studying with my teachers as well as reading ancient yoga texts. In 2016, I started to teach group classes and private sessions.

My certificates include 200H Svastha Yoga for Personal Well-Being Teacher Training Program and 300H Svastha Yoga Therapy Program with Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda, 100H Advanced Teacher Training in Vinyasa Krama Yoga with Srivatsa Ramaswami. I am a registered 500H Teacher with Yoga Association of Alberta.
